2011 in WIBME

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 29,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 11 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

JoJo’s Back!

And the song’s already stuck in my head, very reminiscent of her previous hit Too Little Too Late. I kinda missed her and I always like her songs. Anyways, that was some hiatus, eh? Hope she gets back on track especially with her new album on the way entitled Jumping Trains.

The lyrics helped me appreciate the song more, check it out below:

I’m trying not to pretend that it wont happen again, and again like that

Never thought it would end, cuz you got up in my head, in my head like that

You made me happy baby, love is crazy, so amazing

But it’s changing, rearranging

I don’t think I can take anymore

Cuz the walls burned up and our love fell down

And it turned into whatever, now we’re saying never

Feel the fire cuz it’s all around and it’s burning

For forever and always

We gotta let it go, be on our way

Live for another day, cuz it ain’t the same, my baby

Watch it all fallin to the ground

No happy ever after, just disaster

I didn’t want it this way, I only wanted to say

I loved you right

But now you walkin away, and leavin me here to stay

So foolish of me to wait for you to realize

All the things I gave you, made you, change you

Your dreams came true

When I met you, now forget you

Don’t want anymore

(Chorus)

You shot the bullet , you shot the bullet that killed me

Not feeling my heart beat, and I was dyin

I I’ve been through it, I I’ve been through the agony

And now my eyes are, dryin, tryin, no more cryin,

Like it’s just a game,

So disaster strikes and I’m all right

Cuz my loves on his way

Yeah

Burning up forever and always (always)

yeah yeah yeaa

(Chorus)

Dingdong Dantes: With facial hair or without?

I was at a mall the other day and I saw the latest Men’s Health issue for June in the magazine stands with Dingdong Dantes on the cover:

20110608-071533.jpg

I was like: (gasps) “Oh my Dingdong…” 🙂 I’m not a fan mind you, I don’t even find him hot before! Maybe its those biceps; its obvious he’s hunkier than his last cover:

20110608-071622.jpg

Or maybe its the facial hair. He seems more manly that way, hehe. I definitely think he should keep it. What do you think, you like him clean shaved or kinda unkempt and scruffy? 😉

Who’s Who of Music Battle It Out

The best of the chart toppers will be revealed on May 22 at the MGM Grand Las Vegas when Billboard hands out its Artist and Album awards for the year. You name it: Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Eminem, Ke$ha, Taylor Swift, Drake, Usher, Nicki Minaj will be there either as nominee or performer or both. Rihanna sweeps the nominations getting a record 18 nods out of 46 categories all in all. Eminem with 16 and Lady Gaga with 12. If you want the full list CLICK HERE

The first group of BBMA performers were also announced: Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez (yay!), Lady Antebellum, Taio Cruz and Keith Urban. I hope Britney and Lady Gaga gets added to this list. I have to admit when these big stars gather for an event like this you just gotta tune in whether to check out the winners, performances or even what they’re wearing on the red carpet. I don’t know if the show will air here though… tsk, I guess I have to check with my local cable listing. Who’s excited?

Whether Its Lady Gaga or Lady Antebellum, The Grammys Got You Covered

Let’s start with the most important: the awardees. Lady Antebellum took home 2 of the most coveted awards of the night: Record of the Year and Song of the Year for ‘Need You Now’. I’m personally excited for them! Album of the Year and Best New Artist went to Arcade Fire and Esperanza Spalding, respectively. Don’t ask, I don’t know anything about them. But I don’t think Bieber should win the latter neither, if anything, it should’ve gone to Drake. Good thing Eminem, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, Cee-lo Green, Usher, Train, Rihanna & Lady Gaga didn’t leave the show empty handed. Head to grammy.com for the full list.

Speaking of the crazy, I think you already heard or seen the gigantic egg that arrived at the show carrying the pop phenom. Not even Nicki Minaj’s outrageous hair nor RiRi’s revealing dress nor Ricky Martin’s distracting tight silver jeans nor Katy’s angel wings could upstage Gaga’s antics. Sorry, wrong night girls.

The night’s performers were enough to keep you glued to the screen. Lady Gaga’s anticipated ‘Born This Way’ first live debut proved to be too hyped out (like the song still). Bruno Mars sang a 50s throwback version of Grenade. Gwyneth Paltrow joined Cee-lo and his over-the-top, almost Gaga-like costume in performing ‘Forget You’. Rihanna was also amazing in both her performances, ‘Love The Way You Lie (Part II)’ with Eminem and ‘What’s My Name’ with Drake. A skinny Jennifer Hudson and Christina Aguilera (did you see her fall?) lead the Aretha Franklin tribute opening number. “That was a real sexy ending”, she jokingly said after.

Another great night in music. What do y’all think?

“I’m John Duran and I wish I was an actor”

The 2011 SAG Awards has just concluded and like they always do, the ceremony starts with random actors from the audience stating those lines – minus the ‘wish’ part of course. That one’s mine. Unlike other award shows, since it’s the Screen Actors Guild, the honours are awarded to the actors and the cast only for movies and television. So don’t expect any writing and directing nods. The list of winners is below, and they are as expected. I guess now it’s safe to predict that Colin Firth and Natalie Portman will win the acting trophies on the Oscars as well as Melissa Leo and Christian Bale. On TV, Boardwalk Empire and Modern Family won top honours and Betty White got a surprise win too. I guess the SAG is not much Gleeks since the cast went home empty-handed.

And the nominees are not…

Aside from the news that James Franco and Anne Hathaway will be hosting the 2011 Academy Awards ceremony, the live nominations announcement has just taken place and I was not disappointed. I did notice though the number of Best Picture nominees were up this year and the snubs: Christopher Nolan for Best Director, Andrew Garfield for Best Supporting Actor, Mark Wahlberg and Ryan Gosling for Best Actor. In turn we get to see Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem get noms, so congrats to them.

I Play Fashion Police For A Day

The news about the Golden Globe winners were abuzz the whole week but it wasn’t the only award the stars were after or rather avoiding. I’m talking about the best and worst dressed, entertainment shows all have their own but I’m exercising my fashion eye and here are my picks for best:

5. Halle Berry

My initial reaction is she looks amazing, that neckline is beautiful. People were commenting about the shortness of the skirt and the slit but I think its just the right amount of sexy.

4. Emma Stone

The color suits her so much and the simplicity makes her stand out from a crowd of overworked dresses.

3. Olivia Wilde

Oh my gosh I gasped when I saw this dress from Marchesa. Its big, bold, perfect for the red carpet and I love the statement shoes!

2. Anne Hathaway

In this dress by Armani Prive, she just shines. Its sleek and elegant, I love the puffy shoulders and its backless actually – love it.

1. Angelina Jolie

I know she’s beautiful as is but look at her, she’s so effortless and regal. This Versace dress sparkles during the live carpet show and its just amazing. Even the ‘boxy’ style works for her.

Moving on to the worst, in which I crossed off Helena Bonham Carter and Tilda Swinton technically because I think they always make this list anyway.

5. Julianne Hough

The dress is not so bad but that neckpiece is just too much especially for a petite girl like her. I feel like its swallowing her, the dress is wearing her not the other way around.

4. January Jones

Okay I love the color on her and her hair is beautiful but that top is just wrong. Its not too much skin but its a little off for my liking.

3. Scarlett Johansson

She looks like she aged 10 years! And she lost her figure, I don’t like the hair either. This dress is just way too old.

2. Michelle Williams

Okay this floral dress from Versace I totally don’t get. I know she’s sweet and all but this is a fashion miss.

1. Heidi Klum

What the hell happened to her? She’s a supermodel so there’s no excuse. Its a mess and a bit inappropriate for a formal event. Its actually painful to look at.

So that’s that. What do you think of my list?

Manila Welcomes International Acts

Huge international acts are set to conquer Manila which is rare so I envy those who’ll be able to catch it so hopefully I’ll be one of them.

It was really great news when it was announced that Ms. Janet Jackson will take her Number Ones: Up Close and Personal World Tour here in the Philippines on Feb. 4. Although, I’m not sure how great the venue is. It will be held on the PICC Plenary Hall which I can understand why, maybe its the ‘formal’ setting of the place. How many is the capacity of PICC anyways? But it will be a blast still, she’s going to perform her greatest hits! My favorites from way back like Miss You Much, If, What Have You Done For Me Lately, Control, Together Again and her later releases such as Feedback, All For You, Call On Me.

Taylor Swift’s concert here in Manila, on the other hand, has been announced since last year and has been sold out since as well. She’ll be performing at the Araneta Center on Feb. 19. I can’t believe how fast those tickets were selling. Those who were able to get tickets are lucky! It sucks that we don’t have a bigger stadium than Araneta, they would’ve accommodated more fans. And I don’t think it’s a good idea to transfer it to the MOA open grounds. She’ll probably be performing more of her Speak Now songs but it will be amazing if she sings her earlier hits.

Meanwhile, even LMFAO will be performing at Club Republiq on Jan. 20. Yes, the crazy duo who came up with the party hits namely Shots and I’m In Miami, Bitch! But I think Pinoy fans will be even more excited of the news that Kris Aquino herself confirmed on Twitter. As one of the producers, they will bring Bruno Mars here in Manila on April at Araneta! Now that’s amazing news, we’ll be waiting.

Metro Bodies

Metro’s body issue is in stands now and features this year an athlete, a rockstar, an intellectual, a boy next door & a hunk. Check out our own local male hotties:

I, Too, Was Born This Way

This may be old news but I just realized we’re gonna be expecting more new music this 2011. Since last year’s announcement on the VMAs, Lady Gaga has been since dropping news about her new album ‘Born This Way’. She tweeted: “THE SONG 2 13 11 THE RECORD 5 23 11” alongside the pic above. I don’t know if I consider myself one of her little monsters but I’m definitely a fan and I will grab that record when it hits the stores. I’m excited to listen on the new single as well, she’s unpredictable and I like the sentiment of that phrase: Born this way…

The People Have Spoken

The 37th PCAs last January 5th hosted by Queen Latifah was studded with A-listers from TV, music and movies, name it! And the winners were quite obvious after all its the ‘people’s choice’ so it is a popularity contest. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse dominated the movie categories, heck if it qualified for Favorite Comedy Movie I don’t think Grown Ups stands a chance but still Easy A should’ve gotten it or Date Night. This is the only awards show where Kristen Stewart can beat Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie & Jennifer Aniston. Zac Efron was named Favorite Movie Star Under 25 awkwardly beating ex Vanessa, that’s easy he’s my favorite anything!

On TV, Conan O’Brien’s karma is really turning up beating Oprah, Ellen on Favorite Talk Show Host. Sucks that Pretty Little Liars lost to Dexter for Favorite TV Obsession. I’m curious about the Favorite New TV Comedy $#*! My Dad Says since the book was funny. The Kardashian sisters accepted the Favorite TV Guilty Pleasure award, thankfully it didn’t go to Jersey Shore. And Rachael Ray won the Favorite TV Chef trophy, love her.

Love The Way You Lie proves to be 2010’s biggest single since it won Favorite Song & Music Video. Surprisingly, the night’s performer Selena Gomez & her band The Scene snatched Favorite Breakout Artist from yacht date Justin Bieber as well as Ke$ha, Bruno Mars and B.o.B.

Oh well, let’s just wait for the critics’ choice via the Oscars/Golden Globes/Grammys.

New Britney!

Britney kicks off 2011 with a new album. I have to admit this girl is not one to take a break. Above is the artwork for her soon to be released single ‘Hold It Against Me’. I haven’t heard it yet, I refuse to listen to that unofficial demo leaked on the net. Will this album be a different Britney? Or the tried and tested pop formula she usually comes up with? We’ll see.

Welcoming 1.1.11

I wanted to say “happy new year!” before the year ends and before the fireworks and noise fill the air. I’m just happy we’re about to start a new year and a new decade. I don’t know what 2011 may bring but I’m very eager to find out.

Hope everyone have a blast on NYE. Cheers!!! 🙂

2011 Globe Noms Announced

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association just released the list of nominees for the January 2011 Golden Globe Awards ceremony to be hosted by funny brit Ricky Gervais (again). Glee & The King’s Speech both lead with the most noms: 5 & 7, respectively. HBO garnered 12 noms all in all. Here’s the rundown:

BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
• BLACK SWAN
• THE FIGHTER
• INCEPTION
• THE KING’S SPEECH
• THE SOCIAL NETWORK
Yes! 2 of my fave movies this year & personally, the best as well, were nominated. Of course I’m talking about Inception & The Social Network. Critics are buzzing though with the movie that’s been predicted to be a staple on the Oscars, Colin Firth’s The King’s Speech. We’ll see.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
• HALLE BERRY: FRANKIE AND ALICE
• NICOLE KIDMAN: RABBIT HOLE
• JENNIFER LAWRENCE: WINTER’S BONE
• NATALIE PORTMAN: BLACK SWAN
• MICHELLE WILLIAMS: BLUE VALENTINE
Much controversy has surrounded the films Blue Valentine & Black Swan, the former for getting an R rating for a supposed oral sex scene between Ryan Gosling’s & Michelle Williams’ characters which later was changed to an NC-17 rating. Black Swan, for Natalie Portman’s & Mila Kunis’ onscreen kiss & the dark theme of the movie. But I didn’t realize these were critically acclaimed, I guess it helps since I don’t know anything about Nicole’s nor Halle’s movies.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
• JESSE EISENBERG: THE SOCIAL NETWORK
• COLIN FIRTH: THE KING’S SPEECH
• JAMES FRANCO: 127 HOURS
• RYAN GOSLING: BLUE VALENTINE
• MARK WAHLBERG: THE FIGHTER
I’d say Jesse Eisenberg! But we have James Franco, who’s realistic take on the true story of a man who had to amputate his arm to escape death garnered a nod. Mark Wahlberg is also in for the said to be strong Oscar contender, The Fighter. Close call.

BEST MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
• ALICE IN WONDERLAND
• BURLESQUE
• THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
• RED
• THE TOURIST
Its kinda funny that Burlesque was even nominated, oh well I can take that but The Tourist for Comedy? I’m guessing The Kids Are All Right will get this one.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
• ANNETTE BENING: THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
• ANNE HATHAWAY: LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS
• ANGELINA JOLIE: THE TOURIST
• JULIANNE MOORE: THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
• EMMA STONE: EASY A
Its great that Anne was nominated since she probably shot the entire film naked but its even greater that Emma Stone gets a nod for Easy A!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
• JOHNNY DEPP: ALICE IN WONDERLAND
• JOHNNY DEPP: THE TOURIST
• PAUL GIAMATTI: BARNEY’S VERSION
• JAKE GYLLENHAAL: LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS
• KEVIN SPACEY: CASINO JACK
Of course Johnny Depp scores 2 noms in the same category but more so I think Jake Gyllenhaal’s butt getting nominated is an even bigger deal.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
• DESPICABLE ME
• HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
• THE ILLUSIONIST
• TANGLED
• TOY STORY 3
Tough one, but I have to choose Toy Story though I have yet to watch Tangled.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE
• AMY ADAMS: THE FIGHTER
• HELENA BONHAM CARTER: THE KING’S SPEECH
• MILA KUNIS: BLACK SWAN
• MELISSA LEO: THE FIGHTER
• JACKI WEAVER: ANIMAL KINGDOM

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE
• CHRISTIAN BALE: THE FIGHTER
• MICHAEL DOUGLAS: WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS
• ANDREW GARFIELD: THE SOCIAL NETWORK
• JEREMY RENNER: THE TOWN
• GEOFFREY RUSH: THE. KING’S SPEECH
Hooray for Andrew Garfield! He should bag this one.

BEST TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA
• BOARDWALK EMPIRE (HBO)
• DEXTER (SHOWTIME)
• THE GOOD WIFE (CBS)
• MAD MEN (AMC)
• THE WALKING DEAD (AMC)
I guess the biggest snub this year was Lost, who had their series finale this year. I think a lot of people will react to this one. But anyways I see no reason why Mad Men wouldn’t win as they always had.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA
• JULIANNA MARGULIES: THE GOOD WIFE
• ELISABETH MOSS: MAD MEN
• PIPER PERABO: COVERT AFFAIRS
• KATEY SAGAL: SONS OF ANARCHY
• KYRA SEDGWICK: THE CLOSER

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA
• STEVE BUSCEMI: BOARDWALK EMPIRE
• BRYAN CRANSTON: BREAKING BAD
• MICHAEL C. HALL: DEXTER
• JON HAMM: MAD MEN
• HUGH LAURIE: HOUSE

BEST TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
• 30 ROCK (NBC)
• THE BIG BANG THEORY (CBS)
• THE BIG C (SHOWTIME)
• GLEE (FOX)
• MODERN FAMILY (ABC)
• NURSE JACKIE (SHOWTIME)
I really don’t get Nurse Jackie but please, please give others a shot aside from 30 Rock like Glee or Modern Family. Whatever happened to Desperate Housewives or Grey’s Anatomy?

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES -COMEDY OR MUSICAL
• TONI COLLETTE: UNITED STATES OF TARA
• EDIE FALCO: NURSE JACKIE
• TINA FEY: 30 ROCK
• LAURA LINNEY: THE BIG C
• LEA MICHELE: GLEE

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
• ALEC BALDWIN: 30 ROCK
• STEVE CARELL: THE OFFICE
• THOMAS JANE: HUNG
• MATTHEW MORRISON: GLEE
• JIM PARSONS: THE BIG BANG THEORY

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
• HOPE DAVIS: THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP
• JANE LYNCH: GLEE
• KELLY MACDONALD: BOARDWALK EMPIRE
• JULIA STILES: DEXTER
• SOFIA VERGARA: MODERN FAMILY

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
• SCOTT CAAN: HAWAII FIVE-O
• CHRIS COLFER: GLEE
• CHRIS NOTH: THE GOOD WIFE
• ERIC STONESTREET: MODERN FAMILY
• DAVID STRATHAIRN: TEMPLE GRANDIN
I’m biased on the acting nods I think the Glee actors deserve those awards.

Hopefully some of my faves do win. Who’s yours?
