Random Hottie: Brandon Routh

I liked this guy from the time he was launched as the new Man of Steel in 2006’s Superman Returns and who would deny the uncanny resemblance? In my opinion, he portrayed the title role with just the right balance of charm as Clark Kent and confidence as Superman. Not to mention he’s effin’ gorgeous and tall (a lethal combination) which brought about this post right here. 😉 The above screen cap is from his recent movie Dylan Dog: Dead of Night which tanked in ticket sales and was bombed by critics. I saw the trailer and it was admittedly bad (haha). At least he didn’t deprive us of his hot body unlike in SR. I so wanted his career to take off from that movie and see more of him but it didn’t happen. I heard they’re rebooting Superman again with a new actor albeit he’s perfect for the part. Anyways he did settle for supporting roles; one, more famous than others, is a recurring character in the TV series Chuck’s 3rd season. I don’t watch the show though so I sort of still didn’t feel his presence. But his time will come, I just know it. 🙂

Rants of a singing competition enthusiast

You know damn well I’m talking about American Idol, hehe. The finale performance is due tomorrow night and once again I’m gobsmacked from the last elimination. Worse than season 8 (season 9 was meh), my faves didn’t even make it to the finale. Yes I was betting on a Haley – James showdown, actually there could’ve been a Casey somewhere in there too. Casey has musicality and he plays different instruments but I think his main asset is personality.

For those saying James is an Adam 2.0, yes to some extent I agree and to be honest Adam was more versatile in his performances. But from this season’s contestants, James got the attitude and is far surer of himself as an artist than anyone. As for the screaming, I have accepted that its part of the whole rock persona (ehem Steven). And I’m not one to use the sympathy card but I have to say you gotta admire him more in spite of his tourette’s and asperger’s – a form of autism.

With Haley, I like her cause she has that unique and raspy voice that if ever will be exciting to hear in the sea of boring recording artists these days. I’m not saying she’s the best of the season but in the Top 3, she is. And yes I hated her early on cause she seemed fake and her song choices were blah but she is the most improved and each week she bloomed on stage. Her voice got the ‘umph’ and in case you haven’t noticed she’s got some feistiness in there too especially when the judges gang up on her. I’m sorry but I do think they don’t give her enough love and seems harsher on her. When did they ever put Lauren and Scotty in the hot seat? Ya I thought so.

My problem with our 2 youngest finalists ever (16 & 17) is that they’re good performers but not great. If you’re an avid Idol fan you’d agree with this: I didn’t have a ‘wow’ moment with Lauren throughout the season: no jaw drops, no giddy feeling, no standing o (even though I’m just in my room watching). It’s always safe with her, just enough to gather in those votes. Having said that I did like her from the very beginning, cue in the likeability factor but gosh again this is a singing competition.

Scotty, scotty, what can I say? Hmm… I definitely think he’ll win I’m 99% sure of that. He’s charming and different but as weeks passed it gotten dull which will pretty much sum up the upcoming performance night. There’s not much you can expect from him but I guess millions of teenage girls will disagree with me, if you know what I mean.

I’m sure these two must be the sweetest kids ever but I don’t think they have ‘it’. I don’t think I’ll buy their records. Then again, winning this whole thing doesn’t necessarily make you a successful artist. So yeah, weird enough it doesn’t matter in the end. More than anything, Idol has become a mere popularity contest. However if we stick to the show’s premise, they’re looking for the best and they, for me, are not the best.

Thor: Perfect To Kick-off Summer Blockbusters

The movie was quite an experience! (having watched it in 3D as well). I must admit, I wasn’t keen to go see the movie cause I wasn’t a fan before with the comic books or the character itself but it really persuaded me and for me, Thor is Marvel’s Superman with respect to its larger-than-life premise and the grandness of the characters and their “world”. Fresh actor Chris Hemsworth is the best choice to play The God of Thunder, he literally convinced me from the moment he appeared on screen and spoke. And need I mention the shirtless scene? 😉

The other cast members were also note-worthy; Anthony Hopkins (Odin) usually strikes me as frightening but he works well as an aggrieved father and king of Asgard, Loki played by Tom Hiddleston is the type of villain you sympathize with coz you know where he’s coming from however twisted his ways are, Natalie Portman (Jane) looks so normal amidst these characters but she looks so beautiful in the movie and I love her in it (she’s adorable!). I was astounded with the battle scenes against Laufey and the frost giants with Sif and the Warriors Three accompanying Thor and Loki as they went to Jotunheim. The humor in between also kept the light portions of the movie enjoyable. All in all, it was really good! What more can I say?

And I hope by now you’re already aware of the sneak peek shown after the credits just like with other Marvel films. Part 2 it is. 🙂

Scream 4: Just Not A Fan Of Slasher Films

It wasn’t bad, it was actually pure suspenseful fun although it didn’t make me scream. I just realized (again) why I don’t go to the cinemas and watch horror films especially this genre – slasher films. I tend to look for some depth and sense into the story but I guess when you’re a psychotic killer the last thing on your mind is sense.

It was quite entertaining that they made fun out of their own clichés including the guest cameos in the beginning of Lucy Hale, Shenae Grimes, Ann Paquin & Kristen Bell. [Spoiler Alert] After revealing that Emma Roberts (Jill), Sidney Prescott’s own niece, is behind the Ghostface mask and the ‘rewriting’ of the rules, I was like: “Uh…” and then it got ridiculous. Towards the ending, Roberts did convince me that she was crazy as hell and what did you know: Sidney, Gale and Dewey are still the last ones standing. It was stupid that some gruesome scenes were cut (censors in this country sucks). I loved seeing Adam Brody again and I like Hayden Panettiere in this movie as well.

The Lost Hero: Another Adventure Novel About Greek Myths But Better

Having read the Percy Jackson & The Olympians (and enjoyed it), I wasn’t sure if I wanted another mythology-inspired book. But as it turns out, author Rick Riordan’s new series The Heroes of Olympus is an even more exciting take on the affairs of the Gods that keeps affecting the modern world. On its first instalment – The Lost Hero introduces 3 new heroes: Jason, Leo and Piper (reminds me of the TV show Charmed). At the beginning, Jason wakes up sitting beside Piper and Leo in a school bus for delinquent kids with no idea who he is or why he’s even there. Piper was there for apparently stealing BMWs just to get his (famous) dad’s attention. Leo, well he always gets into trouble so he ran away but he has a hidden talent. The story picks up 3 months from the invasion of Kronos in Manhattan as featured in ‘The Last Olympian’ and so features some of our favourite characters from before: Annabeth, Thalia, Rachel, Percy on the other hand is  missing. Soon enough, our 3 new demigods end up on Camp Halfblood, claimed by their God parent and were sent to take on a quest for a prophecy that is far greater than that of Percy’s ‘Great Prophecy’ – yes I do think so. Olympus was closed, the Gods fell silent and Hera was trapped by some kind of power. Jason’s identity is a crucial part of the plan and will explain a lot about the new prediction. For those who haven’t read it, here’s a clue: it has everything to do with the Roman aspect of the Gods. If my guess is right, Percy and Annabeth will be part of these ‘7 heroes’ as prophesized (fingers crossed).

The book is longer but plotted better. The humour is still there so that’s a good thing. It’s also more engaging since the story gets narrated by each of the 3 characters 2 chapters at a time. The 2nd volume, The Son of Neptune, has been announced to be released sometime in Fall 2011. I can’t wait since this will be the most epic of quest the heroes of Olympus will ever take on. I’m hoping the title is in reference to Percy since Neptune is the Roman form of Poseidon, unless He has some other kid (again!).

Maharlikas Reunite!

Time for a personal post. 🙂

Me and my college friends – we call ourselves Maharlikas (can’t remember why), met up last night after months and it was one for the books! 2 of them treated us for their birthdays at Chili’s (the food is awesome!). The plan didn’t go according to plan (ehem Dolce) but we ended up on Centerstage for some good ‘ol karaoke and then chatted non-stop at Bubbletea to end the night (morning?). 🙂

@ Chili's bottomless tostada chips FTW!
love the fish & fries too! :d

Centerstage, wacky wacky!

this is me singing born this way! ;P

Bubbletea to cap off the gimmick
